Designer Spotlight: Etro

Etro started as a textile house in 1968, producing fabrics and intricate prints. The company expanded to ready-to-wear in the nineties, with the brand covering home furnishings, fragrance and accessories; Veronica Etro designing womenswear. The Etro look consists of printed separates, lustrous fabrics and offbeat color combinations.
I have fallen in love with Etro’s Spring/Summer collection! Her palette of mushroom, dusty pinks and violet, a mix of her signature paisley and striped prints with the soft, delicate fabrics play up the romantic side to this collection.
“There is no fear of color in the Etro canon, and no fear of mixing patterns like stripes, checks and the company’s signature paisleys. The paisley print appears not just on scarves and ties but also on handbags, shoes and home furnishings…..” – Anne-Marie Schiro, The New York Times
Veronica Etro wanted to create a fabulous fashion collection which can combine casualness, femininity and style – and did so in a simple elegant manner. Her combination of different pieces shows that each style can transmit the same look: beauty, elegance, class and femininity.
“She’s never met a racy print she didn’t like, and as a child, Veronica Etro pasted together collages of the rich paisleys and striped fabrics for which her family’s textile and fashion company is famed…. With an astute eye and a brash, confident approach, Etro knows her way around a pattern” – J.J. Martin, Harper’s Bazaar
Some call it boho chic, but I’m a fan – I would wear every single one of her pieces. Etro is a designer to look out for! Stay tuned for my posting of her Fall 2010 collection.
